FC Kohli Death: First CEO of Tata Consultancy Services Has Passed Away

The founder and first CEO of Tata Consultancy Services, India’s largest software services company has passed away. He died on 26 November 2020 at the age of 96.

Kohli was born on March 19, 1924 in Peshawar , British India (now Pakistan ). Growing up in Peshawar, then the military headquarters, he attended Kalsa Middle School and later the National High School in the same city. He completed his Bachelor of Arts and Honors at the Govt of Men’s College, Lahore, Punjab University, Lahore , where he won the university’s gold medal.

After his father’s death in the final year of college, he applied to the Indian Navy. Was elected. However, while awaiting his appointment to the Navy, he received a scholarship from the University of Queens, Canada, to which he had applied. There he completed his young science studies in electrical engineering in 1948. He then worked for a year at the Canadian General Electric Company. He later earned a master’s degree in electrical engineering in 1950 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States.

He was a veteran of Tata Group, the founder and CEO of TCS, India’s largest software exporter.

“FC Kohli was a visionary who created an industry that transformed every part of India. Many generations of men and women in India owe it to him to boost the IT industry, which has created millions of high-quality jobs.

“The map, most importantly, helped us believe in the technological power to solve society’s challenges,” said Ramkumar Ramamori, a former Cognizant India president who worked with FC Kohli at TCS to work closely with him for decades.

“He was always looking for the next border. “He started talking about computer systems in Indian languages ​​in the nineties. His eternal experience was that we do nothing for electronic devices,” Ganesh Natarajan, former Nasscom chairman, told ET NOW.

FC Kohli was born in Peshawar, British India, in 1924. On March 19.

In 1948 he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (Hons).

He then worked for a year at the Canadian General Electric Company, and in 1950 graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a master’s degree in electrical engineering.

In early August 1951, he returned to India and joined Tata Electric. In September 1969, he became CEO of Tata Consultancy Services. In 1974, he was appointed CEO of TCS; in 1994, Vice President.

TCS was founded in 1968 with its headquarters in Mumbai, and F C Kohli was appointed as the first CEO. He was President of NASSCOM from 1995-96.
